Phil Foden sends 25-word message after England's 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final

Phil Foden had his say after England’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the final of the European Championship.

Ahead of the contest, Juan Mata claimed that Foden is the Three Lions’ most “dangerous” player.

But much like a majority of his teammates, Manchester City’s number 47 had a game to forget in his first appearance in a final at a major tournament.

The 24-year-old now has the time to rest and reflect on his and England’s displays at Euro 2024.

In the aftermath of the clash, Foden cut a disappointed figure at the Olympiastadion.

However, the Stockport-born technician will have to swallow the hard pill of losing the final of the European Championship.

The Manchester City stalwart would have been hoping that he could play a role in England getting over the line in Berlin but that was not the case.

According to Sofascore, the six-time Premier League winner just took 33 touches of the ball during the game — highlighting just how uninvolved he was on Sunday night.

As England were beaten by Spain in the Euro 2024 final, Foden posted a brief message on Instagram.

“Gutted we couldn’t bring it home but so grateful for the journey and proud of the boys. Support was class throughout the tournament, thank you.”

Phil Foden should be reflecting on where he can improve after England lost to Spain

Foden is a world-class player and while he failed to impact proceedings in an England shirt against Spain, it was a surprise to witness how quiet he was throughout the tournament as well — coming off the back of the season of his life.

Whether it is to do with Gareth Southgate’s system or his own displays, the decorated attacker will likely be dejected by how he fared in Germany.

In the summer, Foden should look at which areas he can improve his game in order to ensure he takes the 2026 World Cup by storm.

It will be interesting to see whether the Englishman will prepare behind-the-scenes to further elevate his game to an extent that is also evident at club level — despite being consistently brilliant in a City shirt over the years.
