Boyfriend ‘humbled’ after witnessing Latina girlfriend pick up food from frying pan

As his fingertips were sizzling and his cheeks going red, one boyfriend witnessed what it really means to be a “level 99” Latina.

When it comes to the kitchen, we all have our own capabilities and skill levels that often put us at odds with other people in the household. Thankfully, it is never too late to learn life-changing hacks like the fluffy scrambled egg trick or the trick behind opening a can in seconds.

Caution – Don’t put your hand on a frying pan, unless you’re a pro

Last week, Baz (@Texasbaz) posted a TikTok for his followers that has since gained 2.8 million views and almost 400k likes.

In the video, Baz could be seen whipping up some food with his girlfriend as he flipped arepa flatbread in the frying pan using only his fingers. His unnamed girlfriend said “You got that level” before cranking up the heat and moving on to the next stage.

For his next test, Baz was asked to pick the arepas up and cut them open in his hands. Of course, they were extremely hot and the content creator could only hold them for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend demonstrated why she is a “Level 99 Latina” by picking them up and cutting them open with ease. Her face did not even twitch.

“That’s crazy, that’s actually crazy,” he said as his girlfriend held her arepas firmly.

Of course, reduced sensitivity in the hands is not only a “level 99” Latina thing, though admittedly it’s a much better name. In fact, being able to touch hot food is down to a few major points: repeated exposure, calluses, technique, and experience.

Though we mostly see it in chefs and people who work closely with food, it can also be seen within communities that typically cook with a more hands-on approach.

There are a lot of ‘level 99’ Latinas

In Baz’s comment section the term “level 99 Latina” was adopted by countless individuals without Latin heritage.

“My dad (mostly German with hints of other European) would reach in and out of our oven to check bread and stuff with bare hands and I do not understand it,” one user shared.

“Funny enough I got to that level by owning a 3d printer and being impatient, I would never wait for the build plate to cool down, so I would straight up grab the metal plate that was sitting at 150,” someone else wrote.

Shocked, another revealed: “I didn’t even know this was hard because I’ve been doing this my entire life lol.”
