Man Utd fans have a lot to say about Mason Mount after Rosenborg defeat, Erik ten Hag needs to take serious note

Manchester United fans dropped their telling verdicts on Mason Mount after his performance in the 1-0 pre-season defeat against Rosenborg on Monday.

Mason Mount arrived at Old Trafford last summer after Manchester United agreed to sign him from Chelsea for a £55m fee, with a further £5m included in add-ons.

The 25-year-old former Chelsea star inherited United’s legendary No 7 shirt, but Mount had an underwhelming debut season at Old Trafford.

Mount only managed 20 appearances across all competitions for United and scored once and registered a single assist in the 2023-24 season.

However, the England international’s season at the Red Devils was heavily disrupted by a calf injury, with Mount spending four months on the sideline due to his injury.

Mount featured in the 1-0 win over Luton Town last November before his injury, with the ex-Blues ace returning in the 1-1 draw against Brentford back in March.

Man Utd star Mount vs Rosenborg

Mason Mount’s hit-and-miss campaign at Old Trafford saw the Manchester United star miss out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

The Three Lions star started United’s first pre-season match this summer alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, who also missed Euro 2024 in Germany.

United manager Erik ten Hag had a limited first-team squad to choose from due to his players being in action at this summer’s Euros and at the 2024 Copa America.

Mount started in midfield alongside Casemiro and the United star had a mixed first-half performance at the Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim, Norway.

The United player showed promising signs and appeared much sharper in midfield compared to what fans saw during his injury-hit campaign with the Red Devils.

Mount saw out the first half before Erik ten Hag made sweeping changes at the break, including the former Chelsea star coming off for midfielder Toby Collyer.

Man Utd fans deeply divided about Mount

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, had a lot to say about the performance from Mount during the 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg.

Some Red Devils supporters praised the United star for appearing “quite sharp” and felt that he should have stayed on after looking “brilliant.”

However, other Red Devils fans claimed that their “standards” are still “pretty low” on Mount, despite admitting that he “wasn’t half bad” against Rosenborg.

“Mason Mount looked really sharp. More to come from him as next season starts,” one fan said.

Another suggested: “I think we should keep Mason Mount on. He looked brilliant.”

A third X user argued: “Invisible for 40 min. Mount.”

While a fourth asked: “Did anyone see Mason Mount in the first half?”

“Tell you what, though, Mason Mount wasn’t half bad, but I already think he [is mid], so my standards for him are pretty low,” another tweeted.

Someone else commented: “Credit to Mason Mount, he’s clearly been working hard and he looked quite sharp in the opening half, hopefully more to come from him in pre-season.”

And a seventh added: “This match [in] pre-season [was] so boring. [I don’t know] what Mason Mount [was] doing [in the] whole first half.”

Somebody else claimed: “Mount looked alright first half, [Radek] Viatek is better than [Andre] Onana and [Toby] Collyer looks like he can play.
