Costco's 'emergency food' for $100 comes with a shelf-life of up to 25 years

God forbid there comes a day when humans have to fight zombies, Costco’s got you covered with its “Emergency Food” that allegedly lasts 25 years.

Following the uproar over the new packaging of its popular $4.99 rotisserie chicken, there’s another rather unique Costco find that people are amused by. The bucket full of food claims to serve 150 people for less than $100.

Costco sells ‘Emergency Food’ for $100

The item in question isn’t new. The product has been sold at Costco for a while and, those prepping for doomsday have ensured to stock up on Costco’s emergency food.

The ‘Emergency Food Supply’ by ReadyWise comes in a variety pack and the product description claims that it has “up to 25 years shelf life.”

All the food items are tightly packed in a bucket, 150 servings amount to 25,280 total Calories. The variety includes:

  • Cheesy macaroni
  • Teriyaki rice
  • Instant white rice
  • Creamy pasta and vegetables
  • Pasta alfredo
  • Apple cinnamon cereal
  • Brown sugar and maple multi-grain
  • Crunchy granola
  • Potatoes and chicken-flavored pot pie
  • Tomato basil soup with pasta

It prepares you for ‘future uncertainty’

The emergency food available at Costco goes beyond food as the product description on the website states.

“It’s about readiness in the face of uncertainty. With 80 servings of hearty entrees & sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings, ReadyWise equips you for a range of situations.”

ReadyWise’s variety bucket can come of use in any situation you wouldn’t foresee, including severe weather, job transfer, and more.

All you have to do is add water to the assortment to change it into “satisfying dishes’ in minutes. “This convenience isn’t just about simplicity; it’s about maintaining a sense of normalcy when the world around you might feel anything but normal,” the website notes.
