FC Tokyo Break Attendance Record in Routine J1 Win

FC Tokyo have broken their own attendance record when a bumper crowd witnessed the Gasmen's 2-0 win over Albirex Niigata in Saturday's J.League 1 action at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

Around 57,889 people flocked the stands of the National Stadium to witness FC Tokyo record their 10th win of the season, which cemented the Gasmen's position in the top half of the J1 table. FC Tokyo's previous record attendance was made last season in a match against Tamagawa Clasico rivals Kawasaki Frontale where 56,705 people spectated the match at the National Stadium.

The match itself served as a farewell match for FC Tokyo star Kuryu Matsuki, who is set for a move abroad to newly-promoted Premier League side Southampton - although for visa reasons, Kuryu will spend the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Turkish side Goztepe, who were also owned by Southampton's current owners.

Matuki played for around half an hour as a second half substitute as goals from former Union Berlin player Keita Endo and Leon Nozawa helped FC Tokyo to a routine 2-0 win, which brought them up to sixth, 10 points behind surprise leaders Machida Zelvia.
