Real Madrid squad: Confirmed shirt numbers for 2024/25

By Ewan Murray

It was another truly remarkable season for Real Madrid, the kings of European football.

The Spanish behemoths reclaimed La Liga from their bitter Clasico rivals Barcelona and won an astonishing 15th Champions League title. The arrival of Jude Bellingham helped Los Blancos bounce back from a mediocre campaign and they've got another rather special entrant to the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of next season.

The Kylian Mbappe era may be ushered in by a host of other fresh faces moving to the Spanish capital, which means there will be significant changes for the kit staff ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Here are the Real Madrid squad numbers for the new term.

Real Madrid have revealed a host of number changes already for the 2024/25 season. Eduardo Camavinga has taken over the number 6 vacated by the departing Nacho Fernandez, while Federico Valverde has inherited the famous number 8 from club legend Toni Kroos. Youngster Arda Guler has subsequently taken Valverde's old number 15.

Aurelien Tchouameni has also changed his number, dropping from 18 down 14, while Jesus Vallejo has taken the Frenchman's old number having been on loan at Granada last season.

Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez are technically not Real Madrid players anymore but are expected to sign new contracts to continue their journey at the Bernabeu. When they do, Modric will continue wearing the number 10 and Vazquez will hold on to his 17 shirt.

Real Madrid have already handed their star summer signing Mbappe his new number. The French ace will don the 9 jersey but is likely eyeing the number 10 when Modric eventually departs the Bernabeu for good.

Endrick will finally team up with Real Madrid this summer but his number is yet to be announced formally. The young Brazilian is expected to wear the number 16, but he could take the number 9 off Mbappe in the future.

For new signings, there are still some solid numbers available, including the number 12 left free by Camavinga.

What numbers can La Liga players wear?

Unlike in leagues like Serie A and the Premier League, rules are strict when it comes to number allocation in La Liga.

When sides submit their 25-player first-team squads at the beginning of each season, all players within that squad must be issued a number between 1 and 25. For goalkeepers, this must be number 1, 13 or 25.

Academy players who feature in La Liga but are not registered in the first-team squad must wear numbers between 26 and 50, as currently exemplified by Nico Paz wearing number 32.

Can La Liga players change squad numbers?

Once La Liga clubs have submitted their final squad lists, players are not allowed to change their numbers. However, before this deadline - which is usually after the summer transfer window closes - players can change their shirt number freely.
