F1 fans mock Red Bull after social media post about Sergio Perez during the British Grand Prix

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez needed to have a fantastic race to try and relieve some of the pressure on his future.

After several poor races on the bounce, Sergio Perez didn’t even complete the first session of qualifying after beaching his Red Bull in the gravel on the outside of Copse.

This meant that Perez knew he would have to drive from the back row of the grid to try and score points, although Red Bull then decided to make several changes to his car that required him to start from the pit lane.

Perez had some time to make up to the back of the pack at the start of the race but once again he made very slow progress.

He was racing with both Sauber drivers and Kevin Magnussen for much longer than he and his team would have wanted and Red Bull’s gamble to put him on the hard tyres looked like a mistake.

They then made another crucial error – which was copied by Ferrari – to put Perez onto the intermediate tyres much too soon despite rain predictably arriving at Silverstone as it always does.

Formula 1 fans have now reacted to a post from the Red Bull social media account that they can’t believe was posted during the race.

It followed the unexpected retirement of Mercedes driver George Russell, despite the two drivers being on different laps when his race came to an end.

Formula 1 fans can’t believe what Red Bull posted about Sergio Perez

When Russell was told to bring his car into the pit lane to bring his race to an end, Red Bull’s X account posted: “RUS’s retirement means Checo moves up into P16. #BritishGP”

There was no mention of Max Verstappen, despite the fact the two drivers were battling much more closely on the track.

Instead, they concentrated on the impact it had on Perez’s race which was almost non-existent considering he was still well out of contention to score a point.

Formula 1 fans immediately took to the replies of the message and said:

@cigarguyh: “Is that a joke?”

@EmilioHa11: “Well, that’s useless”

@Snappy_F1: “Wow, what a great position to be in.”

@tseng_poyen: “You don’t need to do this.”

@BlessedBobby_: “Why would you even tweet this?”

@TheVFCastro: “Does he want a parade?”

Sergio Perez faces back-to-back races to potentially save his Formula 1 career

Perez’s finishing outside the points at the British Grand Prix was another disaster for the Mexican.

For the 34-year-old to finish two laps behind the leading cars puts him in real danger with speculation increasing about whether he’s going to see out the rest of the season, let alone the new contract he signed last month.

A reported clause in his contract suggests he needs to be within a certain number of places of his teammate and also within a certain number of points.

Right now, he’s not fulfilling either of those requirements putting him in real danger of being replaced.

Red Bull have a plethora of drivers at their disposal if they want to make that change, with Yuki Tsunoda securing another point at Silverstone and Daniel Ricciardo’s form improving.

Perez’s attention now turns to Hungary and Belgium and he’ll be desperate to be in the mix for a podium once again.
