Mirrored Wall memorial to deported Jews defaced in Berlin

A memorial marking the deportation of Jews from Berlin during the Nazi era has been defaced with graffiti of a political nature, police in the German capital reported on Sunday.

The memorial known as the Mirrored Wall is a Holocaust Memorial on a square in the Steglitz district in south-western Berlin.

The damage had been found on Saturday afternoon and was being investigated, police said. The anti-Semitic statements on the mirrors had been rendered illegible, they said. The contents of the graffiti were not revealed.

The memorial marks the site of a former synagogue in the courtyard in a neighbouring building.
