‘What a guy’: Joe Gomez admits he absolutely loves ‘unbelievable’ Man City star

Manchester City have seen many of their squad players feature for their countries in this summer’s international tournaments.

Specifically, in the 2024 European Championship, 14 members of Pep Guardiola’s squad were selected to feature for their countries.

Focusing on England, many Premier League players were picked by Gareth Southgate to represent the Three Lions in Germany, including three City stars, who helped the Manchester club win a fourth Premier League trophy in a row at the end of last season.

Now though, ahead of England’s quarter-final match against Switzerland, one Premier League star in Southgate’s squad has shared his admiration for one of the three City players also in the camp.

Joe Gomez says he loves John Stones

Appearing in a recent livestream shared on the England YouTube channel, Joe Gomez was asked to name some of his favourite players in the current Three Lions squad.

In response, the defender had this to say about John Stones, in particular.

He said: “Stonesy man, what a guy, what a player, man. He’s unbelievable.”

Stones has been vital for England

This isn’t the first time one of the centre-back’s international teammates has shared their thoughts on him, as Declan Rice used the word “hilarious” to sum up Stones last month.

Ahead of the Switzerland game, Stones has played every minute of action across England’s first four matches of the tournament, making him one of the four outfield players in the squad to do so.

In addition to having the highest passing accuracy percentage out of any other England defender, the 30-year-old has also made more clearances (10) than any of his international teammates.

Even though Gomez hasn’t featured for Southgate’s side in the tournament yet, the fact that he thinks so highly of Stones as a player and as a person shows just how important he is for his country on and off the pitch.
