‘Some slightly more than others’: Lando Norris makes cheeky Max Verstappen dig after Austrian GP clash

The reception Red Bull driver Max Verstappen receives when he takes to the track for the first time at Silverstone is going to be fascinating.

The crowd at the British Grand Prix are notorious for supporting their own and right now Lando Norris appears to be the home town hero most likely to win Sunday’s race.

However, the McLaren driver may feel that he should have been standing on the top step of the podium at the previous race as well.

He was running eight seconds behind Max Verstappen before the final round of pit stops but two errors – one from Verstappen’s pit crew and then from the driver himself – closed the gap.

A thrilling battle then ensued but unfortunately, the pair of drivers made contact and both picked up punctures.

Norris’s race ended once he entered the pits, while Verstappen managed to change his tyres and get back on track to finish 5.

Both McLaren drivers appeared on the Radio X Breakfast Show with Chris Moyles ahead of this weekend’s race at Silverstone.

Norris admitted that he wouldn’t have changed his approach during his battle with Verstappen before taking a cheeky dig at the Dutchman.

Lando Norris takes cheeky dig at Max Verstappen after Austrian Grand Prix clash

Asked how he’s feeling after the Austrian Grand Prix, Norris said: “In general I’m feeling good, I’m very excited for the British Grand Prix.

“At the same time, I reviewed everything, we’ve gone over stuff and I wouldn’t really change what I did.

“I was fighting and that’s what we want, we want to fight. We don’t want to complain, we don’t want things to end like they did both from Max’s [Verstappen] side and from my side.

“So, that’s life sometimes, we’re fighting, we both want to win and we’ve both got to push it to the limits, some slightly more than others.”

This comment made teammate Oscar Piastri – sitting beside him in the interview – immediately smirk as it became clear who Norris was talking about.

It also reflects how the drivers felt watching the incident back in the cooldown room at the end of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Norris continued: “But at the same time, we’re going to have more fights together and I look forward to those times.”

The British driver was then asked how it felt knowing that ‘everybody’ seemed to be on his side and he replied: “There are people on both,” but when pushed on the matter he laughed and simply said: “No comment.”

Lando Norris and Max Verstappen set to battle again in Silverstone

There’s been a huge amount of discussion about the clash between Norris and Verstappen as the British driver looks set to be the triple world champion’s newest rival on the grid.

Norris has been given plenty of advice on how to deal with Verstappen, with Eddie Jordan telling him what he needs to learn before going wheel-to-wheel with the Dutchman.

The one-time race winner has admitted he’s changed one thing about his driving style since his maiden victory in Miami earlier in the season.

Norris may have to continue to adapt if he’s going to defeat Verstappen.

It’s very unlikely that he’ll be able to catch him in the Drivers’ Championship this season as he already has an 81-point advantage.

However, 2025 is shaping up to be a sensational season if Red Bull and McLaren are evenly matched next year.
