A fresh round of talks between Aer Lingus and the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association (IALPA) will kick off at 9.30am on Thursday to try to break the deadlock in an ongoing pay dispute. This comes as members of IALPA enter their second day of an indefinite work-to-rule action, which means they are refusing to work overtime. Aer Lingus said that yesterday's action didn't result in additional cancellations, on top of the 270 flights already called off. IALPA has also planned an eight-hour strike for Saturday. A spokesperson for Taoiseach Simon Harris said he welcomed the negotiations planned for ...

The union that represents most behind-the-scenes film and television crews in the US has reached a tentative deal with studios for about 50,000 of its members, making another major, production-stopping strike unlikely after a year of labour turmoil in Hollywood. The two sides announced the three-year deal in a joint statement last night (Tuesday 25 June). The union, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, said in an email to members, who still must vote to approve the deal, that the agreement includes the pay hikes and artificial intelligence protections they had been vying f...

Strikes at Aer Lingus are looking increasingly likely over the coming weeks after an overwhelming majority of pilots voted in favour of industrial action. The results emerged from a paper ballot organised by the Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA) over the weekend, in which 99% (of the 89% of pilots who voted) supported action, up to and including a strike. This recent vote comes after a first electronic ballot was completed last week, showing that 98% of respondents were supportive of strikes. When Aer Lingus contested the reliability of the electronic verdict, the IALPA decided to run ...

The Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA) is shortly due to release the results of a ballot which will determine whether Aer Lingus pilots are in favour of industrial action. The most recent vote comes after a first electronic ballot was completed last week, showing that 98% of respondents were supportive of strikes. Ninety-eight percent of eligible pilots voted. Aer Lingus nonetheless contested the reliability of the electronic ballot, citing concerns about "statutory requirements for secrecy and the provisions of the IALPA constitution". In response, IALPA decided to run a paper vote, ju...

The death toll is the highest publicly acknowledged death toll from the multiple rounds of strikes carried out over the Houthi rebels' attacks on shipping. Three US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to describe a then-ongoing attack, described the strikes on Thursday as hitting a wide range of underground facilities, missile launchers, command and control sites, a Houthi vessel and other facilities. They called it a response to a recent surge in attacks by the Iran-backed militia group on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden over the Israel-Hamas war. The US F/A-18 fighter jets in...

The SNCF is meeting with unions on Wednesday to try to reach an agreement. Train drivers are calling for bonus payments for working through the Olympic period...
