Germany has just gone through its wettest year on record, with rainfall up by 35 per cent. An average of 1,070 litres of rain per square metre fell across the country from July 2023 to June 2024, compared with the 1961-1990 average of 789 litres. New research by Italian scientists estimates that parts of Venice will be submerged by 2150. The study was carried out by experts at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and analysed data on tide level rise.
