Determined not to lose out to the beach over the summer, one Belgian museum has an innovative solution to keeping visitor numbers up: opening its own pop-up pool. In fairness, Antwerp’s Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) – the city’s largest museum and a crowd favourite – probably doesn’t need to worry too much about its popularity, but offering the chance to combine cultural adventures with a refreshing dip can’t be a bad thing. Two pistols owned by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, with which he once intended to kill himself, have sold at auction for €1.69 million. The guns were sold at French auction house Osenat in Fontainebleau, just outside Paris, and had been expected to fetch between €1.2m and €1.5m. However, the painting, created around 1510, has been desirable ...

"Today I toured the main quarters. It was a spectacular city; I say 'was' because today more than half has been consumed by fire," the French emperor wrote. In the missive, on sale for $...
