They’re joined by perhaps lesser-known – ...

London’s cult Prince Charles Cinema, known for its arthouse screenings, eccentric line-ups and midnight marathons, has long been a staple for cinephiles and genre fanatics. However, the beloved venue found itself at the centre of a backlash regarding the planned world premiere, on Sunday 23 June, of a film titled The Last Screenwriter. Too gory? Nope. Too raunchy? Wrong again. *Gasp* Not starring Vin Diesel, surely? No, everyone’s safe. The backlash is regarding concerns that AI is replacing writers, as The Last Screenwriter is marketed as the “first feature film written entirely by AI”. In a ...

Every three years, in the small Belgian city of Ypres, locals dress up in Papier-mâché cat heads and other forms of feline-inspired attire to celebrate the 'Kattenstoet' ('Festival of the Cats'). A tradition since 1955, it's linked - rather bleakly - to legends about cats once being thrown from a bell tower, the reasoning for which is still subject to speculation... But one thing's for sure: people have always loved an opportunity to dress up and get a little weird. The desire to connect with past traditions, while also subverting them, is what makes folklore so compelling. Its rebellious idea...

Designed to reflect on the role London played in slavery – and the way slavery shaped the British capital – the memorial artwork will be located in West India Quay in London’s Docklands, close to warehouses built to house goods produced via slavery. “A lasting memorial to the victims of transatlantic slavery is long overdue. I’m proud that this first memorial of its kind in the UK will commemorate the victims of this barbaric practice and help educate Londoners and visitors on the role London, and the UK, played in the trade in enslaved African people,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan said when the sh...
