Germany's decommissioned nuclear power plant at Grafenrheinfeld has been demolished after a short delay. The demolition of the plant's two, 143-metre cooling towers was originally planned to take place at 17.30 local time but was pushed back to almost 20:00 after a pro-atomic energy activist scaled one of the pylons in protest at its destruction. Police spokesperson Denis Stegner said the unnamed activist chained themselves to the pylon 10 metres above the ground and a special team was deployed to free him before he was taken away by police. The sun on Katharina Mueller's balcony isn't just helping grow her plants, it's also providing her electricity. “Utilising the sun and of course, ultimately, for me, saving some money, but it's also the entire idea of it. I just have to put something up, use what's already there, and I benefit as well. How can you say no to that?,” said Mueller, who got her solar panels put up this year. Germany is seeing a boom in balcony solar panels, with an over 50% increase in the registration of solar panels in the second quarter of this year compared to last year's strongest quarter. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, has just installed 300 solar panels on its roof - part of its commitment to be climate neutral by 2030. The 80 kW photovoltaic installation will save around 5 per cent of the museum's electricity consumption and supply enough power to light its exhibition halls. But the modernist building by renowned architect Frank Gehry posed unique challenges for integrating the panels onto the roofs. To preserve the architectural integrity of the iconic structure, the colour and design of the panels had to be carefully selected and approved. With the need for green e...

With the brunt of people arriving on Wednesday, the crowds in their thousands made their way up the hill at the Park Stage for the festival's opening ceremony fireworks. But there was also a new addition to the rituals. As the sun set on a baking first day, people were drawn to the grounds outside the Pyramid Stage for a drone show. A huge number of synchronised drones moved effortlessly through the sky, conjuring multicoloured images of the Pyramid, the Glastonbury sign and other classic imagery from the festival. Set to a silent background, the effect is impressive if a little subdued. You m...

Regardless of what you think of the phrase "the customer is always right", there is a key truth to it: customers are the ones who set consumption habits and trends. Nowhere is this fact more important to keep in mind than in today’s automotive sector. As both governments and automakers seek solutions to the global challenge of decarbonised mobility at scale, they need to ensure they deliver options to consumers that are well-suited to consumer needs. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to sustainable mobility. In Europe, we’ve seen significant growth in adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) ov...
