Dajabón (Dominican Republic) (AFP) - Far from the violence ravaging Haiti, a market on the border with the Dominican Republic has managed to maintain a welcome degree of normal everyday life. At the Dajabon border gate, a wave of Haitians press forward, eager to shop at the twice-weekly market, situated some 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Haitian capital Port-au-Prince. They are drawn by the market's offerings -- food, clothing, toys, and even used appliances -- items not always readily available in Haiti. "I want to announce publicly that the renegotiation is starting," Petro said, drawing a standing ovation at the meeting in the southern town of Pitalito. He gave no details. ...

It is the e-commerce giant's most advanced robot yet and could soon do the job of the hundreds of thousands of Amazon employees who sort and send five billion packages annually. The development of "Sparrow," and other robots like "Robin" and "Cardinal," are fueling fears that Amazon's warehouses will one day be run by machines, leading to huge layoffs. Amazon's r...

Los Angeles (AFP) - Mark Zuckerberg's presence at the helm of Facebook parent Meta for "many, many years" would be perfectly natural, his global affairs director has told AFP, even as the founders of many tech companies hand off to fresh blood. Succession at the mega company has been in the headlines in recent weeks with the announcement of the departure of Sheryl Sandberg after 14 years as the firm's number two. But while the founders of companies like Amazon, Twitter and Google have all moved on, Zuckerberg has shown no sign of giving up the reins -- despite raging criticism over privacy sca...
