Registrations of battery-electric cars declined by 1% in the EU last month, to 156,408 units, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said on Thursday. The total market share of these vehicles dropped from 15.1% to 14.4%, compared to the same month a year earlier. Renault is releasing a new carline this summer to score the owners' performance out of 100 for each trip. The move follows a new European car safety ruling and the car maker hopes to create friendly competition while also promoting safety on the roads. Aston Martin has unveiled its new Valiant sports car, designed in partnership with Spanish racing driver and two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso. The cars, of which there are only 38 in the world, are thought to cost around £2 million per unit (€2.37 million), excluding tax in the UK.
