The popularity of lager brand Madrí Excepcional is eating into the success of Carlsberg in the UK, the CEO of the Danish brewer has told British newspaper The Telegraph. Launched in UK pubs in 2020, the Madrí brand centres around Spanish culture, marketing itself as "the soul of Madrid". That's despite the fact that the beer is actually brewed in the English county of Yorkshire by the Canadian-American multinational Molson Coors - which also owns Doom Bar, Carling, and Blue Moon. According to data experts NIQ, Madrí Excepcional brought in annual sales of £93.3mn (€108.9mn) last year. Molson Co...

The company behind famous beverages such as Smirnoff and Baileys have had difficulty restoring investor confidence since unsold inventory in Brazil and Mexico led to a decrease in market share and a profit warning in the US, home to the brand's largest consumer base. Market Analyst AJ Bell said: "Diageo's shares have tanked once again on the latest results. Investors won't like the figures, nor will they like the absence of a new share buyback programme and the fact the balance sheet is close to getting out of the company's comfort zone. Diageo targets 2.5 to 3 times net debt to adjusted earni...

Tequila-based margaritas and palomas have long been cocktail-menu staples, but their base ingredient - agave - is now shaking things up in new cocktails, putting a fresh spin on old favourites. While tequila, made from the blue agave plant, is the best-known of the agave spirits, mezcal has also grown in popularity recently. It's made from a wider variety of agaves across Mexico, and is roasted underground for a smokier flavour. Alan Uresti Silva, U.K. brand ambassador for The Lost Explorer Mezcal, notes that when he came to London from Mexico nine years ago, agave cocktails were rare in Londo...

Just four industries cause 2.7 million deaths in the European region each year, according to a new report from the World Health Organization (WHO). The tobacco, ultra-processed foods (UPFs), fossil fuel, and alcohol industries are "wholly or partly responsible" for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the region, according to the major report. There could be a risk to sleeping passengers’ heart health if they consume alcohol on a long-haul flight, researchers have warned. In a new study published in the journal Thorax, a monthly peer-reviewed publication by the British Medical Journal (BMJ), German researchers found that drinking alcohol while on a flight could decrease blood oxygen levels and increase the heart rate during sleep.
